Santa Barbara Vacation 2010
A quick stop before heading to Pismo Beach at the Madonna Inn. It is a flamboyant motel in San Luis Obispo, which opened for business in 1958, it quickly became a landmark on the Central Coast Of California. It is a monument of unremitting kitsch, with a semi-Swiss-Alp exterior and lavish common rooms accented by pink roses, Western murals, and hammered copper. Each room in the Madonna Inn is uniquely designed and themed. Ryan got a kick out of the rock waterfall urinal, which is a tourist site itself.
Oso Flaco Lake Nature Trail
This stop was one of the highlights of our day trip, as we drove south from Pismo Beach. The Nature Trail leads pedestrians on a mile-long boardwalk which parallels the Oso Flaco Lake and Creek flowing into the Pacific Ocean. The entrance to Oso Flaco is located next to a field of food crops. The trail starts in the forest, where we spotted a bobcat running in and out of the vegetation. Spectacular sand dunes and lush vegetation are a few of the sites leading to the beach.
