Death Valley National Park
page 3
A nine mile one-way scenic loop drive through the fantastically colored clay and mudstones of the Artist's Drive Formation. These ancient volcanic ashfalls have been weathered by time and hot groundwater into clays of every color from pale aqua blue-green to rich carmine red. The wild flowers were blooming along the drive.
Zabriskie Point: Surrounded by a maze of wildly eroded and vibrantly colored badlands, this spectacular view is one of the park’s most famous. Located east of Furnace Creek on Hwy 190. The view also includes the area where borax was once mined.
After spending much of the day driving through a small portion of Death Valley, we continued on our journey for another 2 hour drive to Las Vegas.
