On our second day we started early to avoid the crowds at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. A painting of the canyon by Thomas Moran helped influence Congress to make Yellowstone the first National Park. We also drove through Hayden Valley which is known for wildlife and beautiful scenery, Mud Volcano, stopped by the charming historic Lake Yellowstone Hotel, and Artist's Paintpots. This was our longest day.
The View from Artist Point
We hiked a steep trail to see the Brink of the Lower Falls. The hike down with many switchbacks was easy, but it was a struggle to hike out of the canyon.
The magnificent scene, above, in Hayden Valley provided the perfect spot for lunch. Our lunch consisted of Cesar Salad and a Chicken Croissant Sandwich from Costco.
