Valerie, Cynthia's niece, picked us up and showed us around her condo in Vancouver.
The next day, Cynthia's brother Val, joined us for a trip to the Peach Arch on the US-Canadian border and White Rock, a charming waterfront city.
Peace Arch Park is unique in the BC Parks system. Its formal lawns and gardens straddle the 49th parallel, so planning and development are managed in partnership with Washington State Parks. The Peace Arch itself, dedicated in 1921, was the first such structure in the world. It was built on the international boundary between Canada and the United States to commemorate the lasting peace between the two countries.
White Rock is a seaside community that features Canada's longest pier. It also has beaches, galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. We enjoyed a spectacular sunset while strolling the promenade.
