We flew back to Manila where we were picked up by Cynthia's friend, Cristina. Cristina, her husband, Allan, and their daughter, Cristal hosted us at their home in Bulacan. They took us to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, a heritage resort in Bataan, the Aeta indiginous people of Subic, and Subic Bay, the former U.S. Naval Base, where we spent the night in their rental unit.
One of the highlights of our trip was a guided tour through the jungle with the Aeta people. We learned about their dependence on the plants and trees of the forest. Our tour guide below.
The Philippine long-tailed macaque is endemic to the Philippine forests and woodlands. We encountered many of these monkeys along the roadside while driving outside of Subic.
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a heritage resort featuring over 20 Spanish Colonial heritage houses. These houses were carefully relocated plank by plank from different parts of the Philippines. We spent the day on a cultural tour of the heritage houses including a jeepney ride, a narrated walking tour, and traditional Filipino lunch.
