After a full day of touring around, we checked into our hotel in downtown Portland near the Pioneer Courthouse Square, also known as Portland's "Living Room". The square has food trucks which were perfect for breakfast each morning. The following morning we walked to Voodoo Donuts, the Saturday Market, and Chinatown.
Later in the day we explored the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park and Powell's Bookstore. The Rose Garden has over 10000 rose bushes of 650 varieties. Powell’s City of Books is the largest used and new bookstore in the world, occupying an entire city block and housing approximately one million books. In the early evening we walked to a park alongside the Willamette River.
The Cats of Portland.
We were intrigued by these cat statues that were randomly placed throughout downtown and nearby neighborhoods. Each statue, a four-foot-tall replica of the cat from the movie Coraline, has been decorated by different local artists.
We were captivated by this flaky, golden-brown pastry that resembles the ear of an elephant and topped with local marion berry jam. It was a tasty treat!
